The right business structure is the core of a good tax strategy and asset protection plan.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
There are good business structures. They protect your assets and provide tax breaks. Good business structures are:
- Limited Partnerships,
- S Corporations, and
- C Corporations.
There is one bad business structure. Most of the time, a Sole Proprietorship (Schedule C) has four major problems:
- A lawsuit from the business puts everything you own at risk.
- It's going to cost you self-employment taxes of 15.3%.
- You can't build business credit.
- You have a one in three chance of being audited.
